Systems Development & Implementation Tools

eSMART is a system of systems. It acts as the authoritative reference for how a Tactical Data Link system is intended to operate, and provides tools for the development and implementation of fully interoperable systems that speak the same language.

How eSMART Enables Interoperable System Design & Development

01

Define Tactical Data Link behavior at the bit level

eSMART enables engineers to develop standards, requirements, and message structures, captured down to the bit level. By defining expected behavior at this level, eSMART ensures systems are interoperable by design and behave consistently across platforms, programs, and partners.

02

Standardize TDL platform development with a unified system of systems

eSMART replaces fragmented platform communication with a single, structured reference for Tactical Data Link systems. It acts as the authoritative definition of how systems are expected to operate.

03

Enable faster, more predictable integration

When requirements are clearly defined and structured, integration becomes faster and more predictable. eSMART reduces rework by preventing errors that typically surface late in testing or operations.

04

Support interoperability across joint force operations and coalition partners

eSMART is built to the same interoperability discipline used by the U.S. Department of Defense, aligning with the standards that govern Tactical Data Link interoperability across joint and multinational operations. Collaborate with allied nations operating under the same Tactical Data Link protocols.

05

Create a foundation for verification and lifecycle management

eSMART provides the foundation for downstream verification, testing, and analysis. Requirements captured in eSMART flow directly into implementation and validation workflows, enabling consistent verification throughout the system lifecycle.

06

Forward Planning

eSMART provides the capability to anticipate the impact of future changes / enhancements to the TDL Standards ahead of formal release. Any change to a standard can be imported and interrogated to improve scheduling for integration, validation and verification testing

07

Support to Testing

Critical part of the development cycle is testing. eSMART captures and manages the TDL requirements and also provides the capability to document and manage the physical test cases to reduce the time and effort required to draft test artefacts/documentation.

08

Understanding Limitations and maximizing capability

Not all TDL systems are equal. Different implementations based on different standards directly affects capability and operational
effectiveness. eSMART enables comparisons between every version of the standard at both the transactional and bit field level ensuring inconsistences and non-conformities are identified early during the planning cycle

09

Multilink Support

There are numerous TDLs in employment. Missions are predicated on bespoke objectives and communications are critical in achieving those objectives. eSMART provides the capability to identify and verify communications can be achieved across the selected TDLs prior to system development and integration.

Why Use eSMART

Understand how your platforms interoperate with allied nations.

True interoperability is achieved at the bit level. eSMART is designed to ensure Tactical Data Link systems behave consistently at the most precise level of implementation—where bit-level errors disrupt the network.

Bit-level interoperability results in higher accuracy, faster integration, and greater confidence that systems will exchange data exactly as intended. Most importantly, using the eSMART process makes your platforms interoperable with the U.S. and other NATO allies, strengthening international relations and defense capabilities.

MANDRIL

MANDRIL provides automated Tactical Data Link (TDL) interoperability across the system-of-systems at the bit-level. It decodes live or simulated data from more than 70 formats and performs detailed, automated verification against message standards and requirements documents, including MIL-STD, STANAG, and ATDLS.

By dramatically reducing analysis time—reported at up to 80–90%—MANDRIL enables faster data analysis, faster identification of bit-level/protocol errors, message compliance issues, and system integration problems

Analyzes tactical data link bitstreams to automatically verify live data consistent with MIL STD requirements and much more

CIVET

CIVET provides real-time TDL analysis and network monitoring to support interoperability validation during live operations and testing. It decodes Link 11 and Link 16 messages down to the bit level and performs automated, real-time comparisons against message standards to identify errors that can degrade network performance.

Real-time tactical data link message analysis and electromagnetic energy display (TSDF)

PULSE-M

PULSE-M enables measurement and management of pulse density to support safe and effective commercial and military operations. By passively measuring actual pulse density (TSDF) in real time, PULSE-M enables network controllers to use the maximum safe bandwidth available, increasing flight-readiness training capability by 10x – 20x.

Measures and manages total TSDF to safely increase Link 16 participation and improve training realism.
